Our sources

Each fact on a page links to the source it came from. These are the only kinds of source we use.

USDA FoodData Central

Ingredient lists of branded foods, from the USDA's public bulk download (CC0, public domain), release 2026-04-30, downloaded 2026-10-23. For each product we keep the FDC ID, the brand owner, the GTIN, the ingredient list and its publication date. Pages that use it say "Source: USDA FoodData Central".

Makers

Product pages, allergen pages and FAQs on the brand's own site (45 sites so far). We quote at most 25 words, word for word, and keep the date we loaded the page. We load each page once, with a user agent that names this site, and we respect robots.txt.

GFCO certified product list

The Gluten-Free Certification Organization's product finder. We cite single listings, each with a link to the search that shows it, and we record when a product is not found. GFCO counts a product as certified only when its package also carries the GFCO mark.

General statements about foods come only from these publishers, never from blogs:

Sites we could not read

If a site refuses our request, shows a challenge or captcha, asks for a login, disallows us in robots.txt, or renders no content, we record it here and use nothing from it. We do not work around these checks.
